Amy Sandys-Lumsdaine is a wildlife, still life and landscape artist and printmaker based in Nairobi, Kenya, where she has lived and worked for more than 29 years. Her artwork is inspired by her travels and life across Africa, particularly the diverse natural environments and cultures of Kenya. She focuses on wildlife, still life, landscapes, and figurative painting, and is known for blending traditional craft elements with fine art techniques. Her art reflects a fusion of African and Asian influences, often featuring motifs inspired by Swahili architecture, tribal crafts, jewellery, and textiles, which she sometimes integrates into the frames or surfaces of her pieces. Drawing on her background in textile design Amy assimilates patterns and repeats which she hand carves into blocks and prints onto canvas and frames, embracing the mishaps and uniqueness of every stamp. The patterns and repeats are also inspired by Nature and her connection to the natural world. The imagined patterns are a tribute to biodiversity and regrowth.
